While Mr Kosmadakis does most of his wholesale purchases direct by phone, Mr Jose has a new wholesale fresh fish buying option available to him in Auckland. He can attend the daily morning auction run by Sanford, New Zealand’s one publicly listed fishing company, on the Auckland waterfront, as well as pick up the phone to his big company wholesale suppliers. In Wellington, however, it is Mr Kosmadakis’ job to make sure the 35 tonnes of fish he buys each week from his Sealord and Talley’s suppliers in the Nelson-Golden Bay region and from the Kotzikas family’s United Fisheries business in Christchurch keep his supermarket customers satisfied. more
